Just graduated? Got no idea what to do now? I can help you figure it out. Mentoring for Graduates.

June 1, 2017

I’m offering mentoring sessions to 5 graduates who need help figuring out what to do next.

The first 6 months after graduating from University is one of the biggest periods of change you’ve probably ever experienced so far, it will involve making what feels like, big life decisions.

I can help you

  • Figure out what you’re really good at (and how you can make money from it)

  • Explore what a life less ordinary could look like for you

  • Find a job where you will be happy

  • Write a kickass CV

  • Be amazing in interviews

  • Transition into the professional world and make your managers work for you

Why is this important?
You’ve just spent the last 20 years in an education ‘system’ where every day had some kind of structure and your journey was dictated by the school curriculum or University project briefs. You just paid a lot of money for a degree, but what do you do with it now? It’s time to ‘adult’, and there’s no one tutoring you through what to do next.

How do I know?
I’ve been there! I remember graduating from my degree in Fashion Marketing, back in 2004. I got a First, I’d done a year in industry and I had a graduate placement lined up in New York. I was fairly level headed and confident, but I wish I knew then, what I know now...the whole experience would have been so much easier!

I have 13 years industry experience in a range of different creative professional roles. If you’ve read my blog posts you’ll know that I’ve never been happy to settle for the regular Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, I’ve always opted for a life a little less ordinary.

So far...

  • I have a degree in Fashion Marketing and an MA in Design Practice.

  • Did a textile internship in New York.

  • Worked as a fashion designer for Topman.

  • Travelled the world researching consumer behaviour for brands like Nike, Converse and MTV.

  • Took a 2-month sabbatical to travel around India.

  • Spent several weeks in silence (not all at once) on Buddhist meditation retreats

  • Lived in London for 7 years

  • Retrained as an Interior Designer (without going back to Uni) - and got a job with the biggest design practice in Newcastle

  • Joined Trend Bible as a senior Trend Strategist, advising global brands and manufacturers on the future of life at home

  • Moved to Barcelona to do the digital nomad thing

As well as being a successful creative professional, I’m an experienced mentor and coach. From my own experiences, I’ve developed a number of practical tools and ways of thinking that when applied in the right way are extremely useful - I’ve tried them, I know.

Mentoring and coaching experience
As an Associate Lecturer at Northumbria University’s Design School I’m experienced in mentoring students and graduates. I’m responsible for developing and delivering training and coaching programmes for the Trend Bible team, I also work with Intelligent Action, assisting in facilitating leadership training workshops with organisations like the UN and Médecins Sans Frontières.

What does it cost?
I’d love to say that I could offer this for free…but how to earn a living from the skills and experience we have is one of the most important things I help other people figure out  - so with that in mind, it’s important to tell you that I do charge for mentoring. Get in touch if you’d like to find out more about what you can get out of graduate mentoring with me.
